Our Under 13 team had a great few days on Spain at the Barcelona Cup
This is our annual trip and once again was it was a great success.
We left from shannon on Thursday April 9th flying into Barcelona Rues. Once in Spain we checked into our accommodation Cambrils Park Resort.
On the Friday we took the team to the football venue to register. With the weather being beautiful we spent the afternoon by the pool before going go carting. After dinner it was off to the beach front to meet the lucky lucky men.
After breakfast on Saturday it was off to the football grounds and the start of the tournament.
We began against a team from Finland things didn't look good as we went 2 down early but 2 goals from Scott Gallagher earned us a draw.
The second game was against a Scottish team and the boys ran out.8-0 winners. Our Scorers were Gavin McNamara x2, Aidan Dillon, Glen Blackhall, Tommy Byrnes x2, Jake Galligan and Daniel Cannon
Onto the last group game against a team from Northern Ireland and we had to win to top the group. Once again we fell behind but a cracking equaliser by Scott Gallagher and a terrific free kick by Leighton Hehir saw us ahead at the final whistle and so top the group
Saturday afternoon was spent relaxing by the pool.
Onto Sunday and the semi final against a Scottish team. Playing against the very strong wind we found ourselves behind at the break but once again the boys showed terrific heart to equalise through Tommy Byrnes a great finish and we had a few have chances to win it but it finished level and o to the dreaded penalty shootout where unfortunately we lost 5-4.
The third place playoff saw us lose to an English academy team 2-1 with Tommy Byrnes scoring
It was some achievement to finish 4th out of 16 teams in what is a very high standard tournament with teams from all over the world. The boys did themselves, their families and the club proud and were a credit both on and off the field.
We finished the Sunday by taking the players out for a meal as a treat.
Well done to everyone who helped but this trip of a lifetime together for the boys
Onto 2027 trip now
